چکیده
Accelerator driven fast nuclear reactors cooled by lead-bismuth eutectic (LBE) are developed for transmuting long-lived radionuclides in spent fuel. Due to the nature of coolant, operating reactor will result a production 210Po neutron capture. Understanding behavior this highly radiotoxic nuclide event failure window separating evacuated proton beam guide from core is required safety assessments. The present work aims at acquiring knowledge studying evaporation polonium neutron-irradiated LBE and its deposition scaled down model tube. Experimental results along with Monte Carlo simulations indicate that adsorbs as single species an adsorption enthalpy approximately −156 kJ/mol.

Discovery of the thallium, lead, bismuth, and polonium isotopes
Currently, forty-two thallium, forty-two lead, forty-one bismuth, and forty-two polonium isotopes have so far been observed; the discovery of these isotopes is discussed. For each isotope a brief summary of the first refereed publication, including the production and identification method, is presented. ∗Corresponding author. Email address: [email protected] (M. متن کاملOxygen-iron interaction in liquid lead-bismuth eutectic alloy.
Iron released by steel corrosion was found to be a key impurity in reactions with dissolved oxygen in liquid lead-bismuth eutectic alloys. The iron-oxygen-magnetite equilibrium was characterized, allowing the quantification of phenomena that are important for long-term operation of lead-alloy based installations such as corrosion rate control and management of precipitates.

Although liquid lead-bismuth eutectic (LBE) is a good candidate for the coolant in the subcritical transmutation blanket, it is also known to be very corrosive to stainless steel, the material of the carrying tubes and the containers. Such a corrosion problem can be prevented by producing and maintaining a protective oxide layer on the exposed surface of stainless steel. Proper formation of the...
متن کاملInvestigation of Corrosion of Steel by Lead Bismuth Eutectic
A new research program has begun at UNLV in accelerator transmutation of waste. Lead Bismuth Eutectic (LBE) has been proposed for use in programs for accelerator transmutation of waste. The LBE acts both as a coolant and as a sputtering target. We have recently initiated a program to investigate the corrosion of steels by LBE. Corrosion products and chemical reactions will be identified using U...
متن کاملCritical temperature of the lead–bismuth eutectic (LBE) alloy
Liquid metals such as Bi and Pb and Pb–Bi eutectic alloy are serious contenders for use as coolant in LMFBRs in lieu of sodium due to a number of attractive characteristics (high density, low moderation, low neutron absorption and activation, high boiling point and poor interaction with water and air, etc.). Analysis of hypothetical accidents is of relevance to predict the catastrophe involving...
